TUKO.co.ke recently ran the story about brewing discontent from Jerusalema singer Namcebo Zikode.

In a bitter post on social media, Namcebo decried not receiving a single cent for the song despite its global success for the better part of 2020.

The South African crooner accused the recording label Open Mic Productions of trying to marginalize her contribution towards the song.

Master KG Responds

Co-star Master KG has, however, come out to defend Open Mic, accusing Namcebo of demanding 70% of the royalties on the song yet she was a featured artist.

According to him, Namcebo has not only already received R1.5 million (KSh 11 million) but has also been doing tours alone and making money from the song.

He added that there is more to the supposed revenue the song has grossed than meets the eye, an amount that the public is overquoting.

In a rejoinder by the recording label, Brendon Maseko issued an official statement indicating that it is true the artist is yet to be paid but blamed the delay on her back and forth in making decisions.

"No payment has been made to either artist as yet because Namcebo Zikode is yet to sign the Featured Artist Agreement that essentially records what was agreed between herself and Master KG prior to both of them going into the studio to record Jerusalema," read part of the statement.

The statement did not address the singer's allegations that Open Mic has sidelined her from performances and under the pretence of COVID-19 restrictions.

As the bitter exchange of words between Namcebo, her co-artist and the recording label continues, it remains to be seen how the matter will be solved in the long run.
